the retro 80's VHS/BetaMAX (video)tapes background is rad. Leguizamo kinda looked like a real-life Penthouse Pet or a Playboy Playmate of the month. John ("The Pest," "Spawn") had a problem with Patrick Swayze ("Dirty Dancing," "Ghost") because he was difficult to work with, insecure and didn't like to get off the script (by doing ad libs; improv stuff). Leguizamo got along real well with Wesley Snipes ("Blade," "New Jack City," "White Men Can't Jump," "Money Train"). I'd expect Naomi Campbell to throw a (12") shoe (instead of a cell phone) at someone that she disliked, behind-the-scenes. Julie Newmar was had played "Catwoman" in the late 1960's version of the "Batman" tv series; before Eartha Kitt came in, I think. Lynda Carter; I absolutely loved her as "Wonder Woman (aka Diana Prince).

This film reminded me of comedies like "Meatball (1979)" with Bill Murray ("Caddyshack," "Ghostbusters") & "Meatballs 2 (1984)." Molly Shannon was so good on SNL, just like a Cheri O'Teri, Nora Dunn, Victoria Jackson, Melanie Hutsell, Amy Poehler (with the multi-talented Tina Fey) or Julia Sweeney. "It just doesn't matter !" - Bill Murray in "Meatball" 1. Macrame screams the 1970's. "The China Syndrome (1979)" was the disaster film starring: Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Michael Douglas. "Sleepaway Camp (1983)" looks cool; I didn't knew that it had two more sequels: 2 - Unhappy Campers (1988) and 3 - Teenage Wasteland (1989)." Showrunners Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story anthology series: 1984 (2019)" also came to mind. Ruth Buzzi was the gal on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (aka Laugh-In); it had featured a young Goldie Hawn ("Private Benjamin (1980)," "Seems Like Old Times (1980)"), Gary Owens, or Lily Tomlin ("9 To 5 (1980)"). This was like the "Scary Movie (2000)" film, which spoofed "Scream (1996)"; "Scream" had fun of 80's horror movie premises; kinda like "The Final Girls (2015)." "Not Another Teen Movie (2001)" = high school movie cliques (like "Clueless (1995)" or "Mean Girls (2004: written by Tina Fey).") What a masterpiece !!!! It was hilarious, sexy (with the cleavage, crotch ("camel toe") and butt shots or double entendres), violent and buck wild... Continuity wasn't a thing here. I liked the contemporary references (Chris Farley in "Wayne's World," "Tommy Boy" or "Black Sheep"). Jayne Mansfield = the mom of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" star Mariska Hargitay (Detective Olivia Benson); along with: Christopher Meloni, Ice T; the late Richard Belzer. I got the small rural town "Mayberry" gas attendant (Barney Fife) vibe. Both the film director John Waters and the 90's Brit girl group, The Spice Girls, was influenced by this film; Quentin Tarantino wanted to do a remake of this film (in 2008), but did other films instead.

Avaryl, had to do my favorite Sleepaway Camp impression knowing it is my favorite. Now will have to watch this video review over and over again. You could do "Aunt Martha's coming" forever and I will laugh every time.

I LOVE the musical and the movie was AWFUL. Why do people watch Broadway movies when they haven’t seen the musical???! Also, there is a plot, even if it is a thin one. The POINT is the DANCING and the SONGS. Just bc you don't understand Broadway doesn’t mean the musical was garbage.

I hate this prevailing idea that a woman desired by men is in the position of power. Being a hot commodity as a woman is not an inherent power. I used to be a stripper. Did I feel powerful onstage in my stripper heels, gyrating for an old man to give me 8 wrinkly dollars? No. I thought about how broke I was. Men mistake sexual currency to be real-world currency. Within the constraints of the patriarchy, women have just as much power as men will allow them to have.
